Arbor’s Pravail Availability Protection System Now Generally Available
CHELMSFORD, MA (September 13, 2011) – Arbor Networks, Inc., a leading provider of security and network management solutions for next-generation data centers and carrier networks, today announced a North American distribution agreement with Tech Data Corporation (NasdaqGS: TECD), one of the world’s largest wholesale distributors of technology products and solutions, to sell Arbor’s PravailTM Availability Protection System (Pravail APS) in the U.S. and Canada through its channel of over 60,000 resellers. Arbor’s Pravail APS is an on-premise device that protects the Internet data center (IDC) edge against threats to availability, including application-layer, distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. “Arbor Networks has been at the forefront of DDoS mitigation in the service provider market for years and now they are bringing that experience and leadership to the enterprise data center at a very critical time,” said Chuck Bartlett, Vice President and General Manager of Tech Data’s Advanced Infrastructure Solutions division. “Arbor is backing the Pravail APS with a comprehensive program for our network of resellers that rewards results and fosters mutually beneficial growth, while promoting operational efficiency and providing world-class support services and resources.” Application-layer attacks are low bandwidth, difficult to detect and target both end-users’ and network operators’ own ancillary supporting services, such as HTTP Web services and domain name system (DNS). According to Arbor’s sixth annual Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report, 49% of those who have deployed these devices within their cloud data centers experienced significant firewall and/or IPS failure as a direct result of DDoS attack. Arbor Pravail APS delivers out-of-the-box, proven DDoS attack identification and mitigation capabilities to help enterprises overcome these data center security challenges. “Tech Data’s reach, resources and relationships with leading value-added resellers greatly accelerates Arbor’s ability to penetrate the enterprise market, which is suffering from attacks against availability,” said Colin Doherty, President of Arbor Networks. “Arbor Pravail APS is the only security solution focused on the availability of the data center itself. As attack techniques and the motivation behind them are evolving, we have seen too many enterprises unprepared to defend against application-layer, DDoS attacks. We see a real opportunity to address key issues for enterprise data center operators and look forward to a close working relationship with Tech Data.” Arbor Pravail APS HighlightsOut-of-the-Box Protection
“One of the biggest barriers to mass market adoption of cloud computing are concerns about security and availability, in particular application-layer distributed denial of service attacks,” said Yankee Group Vice President Brian Partridge. “As DDoS attacks increase in size, frequency and complexity, enterprises must seek to protect their critical data assets. DDoS is not to be taken lightly as there is a lot at stake, one successful DDoS attack can cost millions in direct revenues and loss of brand value.” For more information on Arbor Networks® DDoS Detection & Mitigation Solutions, please visit www.youtube.com/user/ArborNetworks.
